Spain Wins!
2011 World Pastry Cup
As one of the culinary capitals of the world, Lyon, France
was a fitting location to select the winners of one of the
most prestigious chef competitions. On January 24th, 2011,
with teams from nineteen nations competing in a grueling
test of skill and innovation, Chefs Jordi Bordas Santacreu,
Julien Alvare and Josep Guerola of Team Spain won the top
prize of 12,000 as well as the coveted title of the 2011
World Pastry Cup Champion. Second place went to the
Italian team, and third place to the chefs from Belgium.
Led by Captain Jean-Francois Suteau, Executive Pastry
Chef of The Beverly Hills Hotel, and coached by Chef
Sylvain LeRoy, Team U.S.A. brought back the prize for Best
Sugar Centerpiece and placed 6th. Club Coupe de Monde
U.S.A. Chairman Gilles Renusson praised the team, and
says he is “very proud of their performance, for the last
nine months the team focused every spare minute to
practice.” Chef Suteau was joined by Chef Bill Foltz
(Executive Pastry Chef of Casino L’Auberge in Lake Charles,
LA) who created the Sugar Centerpiece, and Chef Yoni
Morales (Executive Pastry Chef of ARK at the New York
Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV).
